'Thou almost persuaded me to become a Christian ', is the answer Paul received from King Agrippa after he explained to him about the risen Christ. Giving his testimony, Paul's heart longed after Agrippa's soul and those that sat on the courtroom that afternoon . Pin drop silence engulfed the room as Paul explained how as he sought letters to arrest the followers of this new religion, he himself had become not only a convert, but a preacher. Moving was this testimony that Agrippa felt a voice deep within him. He felt for his brow, and all he found were drops of sweat. He felt uneasy. Indeed the conflict within him was great. Rejecting Paul's message meant maintaining his position as King, the loyalty and the trust of his subjects. What would his friends think of him when they realised he too had subscribed to the new wave that was quickly sweeping the city . What would people think of him if he too believed in death and resurrection of a saviour? No! it couldn't happen now at least not today. His answer is a reflection of self_comfort and reassurance despite a strong urge and conviction. That same urge we get when we are about to compromise our Christianity for that long awaited job. He glanced at the watch and realised few minutes had elapsed. 'Not in a short time, not in a short time' , he mumbled to Himself. Despite the pleading voice in him, he uttered the word' Thou almost '. Words of comfort amidst a plain piercing truth. This is the perfect picture of many people and their approach to salvation. To be almost persuaded is to be entirely lost! To let go of the one more chance that is given unto us is to shut the door of it ever coming along. Ignited by the old sweet story of Jesus Paul went on to say, 'Not only you oh King but all in here today, save for these chains'. Paul desired that they may find the rest, love and peace of the compassionate saviour. King Agrippa's soul seem convinced and for a moment found peace away from the fierce enemies both within and without his Kingdom. He was far more convinced Paul was innocent and saw faith and hope in his words. This man, Paul, speaks with authority and conviction. He stared at the dangling chains on his hands and feet and felt guilty. He longed to share in his faith, but looking at the vastness and richness surrounding him, his heart yearned for them. The devil, being timely as he always is, took him up on the high place he had taken Jesus years earlier and showed him the wealth he wanted to forego. Sadness filled his heart and the once bright face became dim. He slowly convinced himself he probably needed a second thought, maybe months or a couple of weeks of conferences to validate the authenticity of Paul's testimony. How I wish he knew what a precious opportunity he was giving away. How I wish he understood the undying love of the dying lamb of calvary . How I wish he had tarried on that court room a little longer. Maybe then he would reconsider his decision. Yet he, like many today chose the path taken by many, the broad high way to destruction.
May we have the strength to let go of the one more sin we hold for the sake of Christ.

Thou almost persuaded me

Love
John 16:33 'that ye may have faith, That ye may have peace'. You may have reflected on these words from Jesus Himself and wondered what they really meant. If they still speak to us, 2000 years later. Before hand he told them 'a time is coming and has come when you will be scattered each to his home. You will leave me all alone yet iam not alone for my father is with me' Even as Peter tried to condemn him why he prophesied bad things unto himself, Christ looked at him and behold him with love. He sympathised with his human nature that was so unpredictable. Peter indeed meant his words, atleast then , but Christ foresaw what would happen and with tenderness and mercy bade him' I have prayed for thee '. Well how amazing are these words from our saviour? Amidst expectations of rejection, desertion and loneliness that loomed around him he told them,' that ye may have peace '. Even as his heart was feared what was awaiting him, even when his mouth ran dry of a prayer atleast for himself, he still longed that these friends who had left their all, forsaken what had become inseparable from them and followed him this far, may triumph in all. The saviour remembered howthey had left their nets and boats all for his sake and all he wished them was that they may endure all and remain faithful till the end. What a friend in this man of calvary! Even when those closer to him, them who had eaten the blessed multiplied bread, them who had watched as demons were driven away , them who had seen the sick pick up their mats and walk, the blind receive their sight, could not tarry awhile,be atleast by his side to endure and face it wit Him. They would later leave him as they dragged Him down till he could bear his cross no more. No one came through for him when his cross weighed him down. No not one. Yet Jesus held no bitterness nor anger against them. As the sins he had committed not weighed Him all his tearing eyes held was love. The theme that surrounded his bruised body was redemption even unto those who loved him not. Peter, who had tarried a little longer with him slowly retreated. Jesus still beheld them 'that ye may have peace'. As his perfection was rendered imperfectio amidst his innocence, as he hung on the cross he looked down and said 'Father count this on them not'. As each nail was screwed down his muscles and bones, as the scribes numbed his nerves and his vessels, brokn, to let go of precious blood, He still confessed his love to them that were busy shouting, away with him!. As they exchanged the perfect saviour for athief and robber. Him who had anguished them day and night. Him who made their roads impassible at night was more deserving of life than the carpenter's son. Christ had raised their death and brought joy and happiness to the bereaved. What is love if not that which persist even after you leave someone hanging on the cross for your sins? What is love if not that which compels one to leave glory and service of millions of angels to tread a path he must not? How many times have friends forsaken us and we write them off completely. Love those around you, show kindness to a friend, be nice to that beggar on the streets. If there is a great lesson Christ left us with is Love. Love not because you want to be loved back but because of the love the dangling saviour on rugged cross had. It's magnitude is greater than we can imagine!

I speak for myself
I stand at the banks,
oh yes, at the banks i stand,
looking at the flowing waters.
I wonder,alas, what a great miracle,
oh ,how i wish life was this smooth!
No one speaks for the waters,
but they flow still everlastingly,
iam happy i own my own life,
But,what benefit will life give,
if someone else controls it?
I look back at those days,
When i thought you were meant,
Not really meant, but i guess minted,
To be the perfect one i long longed for,
I hold close to heart those days,
oh yes, those long long gone days,
when i thought i were close to your heart,
I hold no grudge against them,
Neither do i hold against you
but i hold against the person in you
oh my heavenly sent dream
isnt it too soon to change?
Now when the rains have subsided.
When the overflown are the banks
on which my destiny was once rooted
when they have just hearkened to me
you strike like thunderstorm
arent you ashamed of yourself
just when i have gathered my remains
and once again mould myself
is when,i mean, you feel am worth?
Oh no! No i say!
I will not fall into your trap
My clock tickles,its late
or even worst later forever
i have found solid ground
oh yes the biblical said rock
to which i built my destiny
Am happy am free,free
free to define my destiny
never will you get the key
but i wonder if you will change the lock
i dont think i owe you any sorry
because you were a bastard enough
i mean enough,to wretch my heart
you deserve no goodbyes
atleast am humane enough to utter
goodbye,goodbye onward i go,
forward i march
out to conquer
Am thankful you came to my live
i wouldnt have learnt so much
atleast you taught my eyes
to keep back tears
unknowingly you helped me
now am not tearblinded
now i can look at the suns rays!

Are you willing to pay the price?
Read the Martin Luther story and just couldn't help but wonder what men of the old paid for Christ. Those who dared call sin by its name and were willing to forsake all for that saviour, who dangled on a cross more than 2000 years ago. Compelled by the love of Christ, thirsty to know the love of God, Luther gave up his dream of becoming a lawyer. In his heart all he wanted to be was be a soldier of the cross. Even when he was threatened with death, he felt he would rather cling to the truth in the scriptures, cling to that Blessed hope of Christ and His love. As he stood condemned before his accusers, as they all shouted in unison, 'Luther is a heretic', all Luther saw was how many souls could be freed by his reforms. That the nature of God had been tainted to be tyrannical hurt him to the bone and in his quest he wanted to vindicate Gods loving nature, he wanted to free those who under laws of men had been held captives. The custom of paying indulgences broke his heart as he watched poor, desperate people drop their last pennies. He thought of God's grace, his redeeming grace and was convicted it was given free to every believing soul. How many of us when faced with one challenge, are willing to forsake our faith? How many of us when our friends become hard on us because we are Christian, prefer to sit back like Peter and say 'this Christ, we know not?How many of us when things do not work out we are willing to sell our birthright even for a morsel? We claim to be Christians, go to church but we never let God control our lives. Christianity comes with a price but one thing for sure, our faith will count one day when Christ shall tell us, well done faithful servant.
