Read the Martin Luther story and just couldn't help but wonder what men of the old paid for Christ. Those who dared call sin by its name and were willing to forsake all for that saviour, who dangled on a cross more than 2000 years ago. Compelled by the love of Christ, thirsty to know the love of God, Luther gave up his dream of becoming a lawyer. In his heart all he wanted to be was be a soldier of the cross. Even when he was threatened with death, he felt he would rather cling to the truth in the scriptures, cling to that Blessed hope of Christ and His love. As he stood condemned before his accusers, as they all shouted in unison, 'Luther is a heretic', all Luther saw was how many souls could be freed by his reforms. That the nature of God had been tainted to be tyrannical hurt him to the bone and in his quest he wanted to vindicate Gods loving nature, he wanted to free those who under laws of men had been held captives. The custom of paying indulgences broke his heart as he watched poor, desperate people drop their last pennies. He thought of God's grace, his redeeming grace and was convicted it was given free to every believing soul. How many of us when faced with one challenge, are willing to forsake our faith? How many of us when our friends become hard on us because we are Christian, prefer to sit back like Peter and say 'this Christ, we know not?How many of us when things do not work out we are willing to sell our birthright even for a morsel? We claim to be Christians, go to church but we never let God control our lives. Christianity comes with a price but one thing for sure, our faith will count one day when Christ shall tell us, well done faithful servant.
