Love

John 16:33 'that ye may have faith, That ye may have peace'. You may have reflected on these words from Jesus Himself and wondered what they really meant. If they still speak to us, 2000 years later. Before hand he told them 'a time is coming and has come when you will be scattered each to his home. You will leave me all alone yet iam not alone for my father is with me' Even as Peter tried to condemn him why he prophesied bad things unto himself, Christ looked at him and behold him with love. He sympathised with his human nature that was so unpredictable. Peter indeed meant his words, atleast then , but Christ foresaw what would happen and with tenderness and mercy bade him' I have prayed for thee '. Well how amazing are these words from our saviour? Amidst expectations of rejection, desertion and loneliness that loomed around him he told them,' that ye may have peace '. Even as his heart was feared what was awaiting him, even when his mouth ran dry of a prayer atleast for himself, he still longed that these friends who had left their all, forsaken what had become inseparable from them and followed him this far, may triumph in all. The saviour remembered howthey had left their nets and boats all for his sake and all he wished them was that they may endure all and remain faithful till the end. What a friend in this man of calvary! Even when those closer to him, them who had eaten the blessed multiplied bread, them who had watched as demons were driven away , them who had seen the sick pick up their mats and walk, the blind receive their sight, could not tarry awhile,be atleast by his side to endure and face it wit Him. They would later leave him as they dragged Him down till he could bear his cross no more. No one came through for him when his cross weighed him down. No not one. Yet Jesus held no bitterness nor anger against them. As the sins he had committed not weighed Him all his tearing eyes held was love. The theme that surrounded his bruised body was redemption even unto those who loved him not. Peter, who had tarried a little longer with him slowly retreated. Jesus still beheld them 'that ye may have peace'. As his perfection was rendered imperfectio amidst his innocence, as he hung on the cross he looked down and said 'Father count this on them not'. As each nail was screwed down his muscles and bones, as the scribes numbed his nerves and his vessels, brokn, to let go of precious blood, He still confessed his love to them that were busy shouting, away with him!. As they exchanged the perfect saviour for athief and robber. Him who had anguished them day and night. Him who made their roads impassible at night was more deserving of life than the carpenter's son. Christ had raised their death and brought joy and happiness to the bereaved. What is love if not that which persist even after you leave someone hanging on the cross for your sins? What is love if not that which compels one to leave glory and service of millions of angels to tread a path he must not? How many times have friends forsaken us and we write them off completely. Love those around you, show kindness to a friend, be nice to that beggar on the streets. If there is a great lesson Christ left us with is Love. Love not because you want to be loved back but because of the love the dangling saviour on  rugged cross had. It's magnitude is greater than we can imagine!
